BMW hasn't officially announced the all-electric 2027 3-Series, but recent leaked images have provided a clearer look at the sedan ahead of its launch.

Leaked images reveal a different design language compared to current BMW models, featuring a more modern and minimalist style. This is also seen as the main design direction for the German automaker's next-generation electric vehicles.

According to plan, BMW will officially introduce the new i3 Sedan on March 18th, marking its second product using the Neue Klasse platform, following the previously launched iX3 SUV. Although full specifications have not yet been released, the German automaker has emphasized that sustainable development is one of the key focuses of the project.

Specifically, BMW states that approximately 30% of the materials used in the vehicle come from recycled sources. Recycled aluminum is used in many components such as the suspension system, wheels, and rear motor housing. Notably, about 70% of the multi-spoke wheels are made from recycled aluminum, while 80% of the front and rear suspension components also utilize secondary materials.

The exterior of the 2027 BMW i3 sedan also utilizes recycled plastics, notably the front bumper trim, which is made from approximately 30% recycled plastic. The design of this component has also been optimized to reduce the amount of material used, thus facilitating easier recycling at the end of the vehicle's lifecycle.

Inside the cabin, BMW plans to equip the standard version with fabric-upholstered seats made from recycled PET material. Additionally, some details under the hood are made from recycled plastics derived from ocean waste such as fishing nets and ropes.

According to BMW, thanks to these solutions, the i3 50 xDrive version – expected to use a similar powertrain to its "sibling" iX3 with approximately 463 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque – will be able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in under 5 seconds.

The car's 108.7kWh battery provides a driving range of up to 805km per charge according to WLTP standards. It can achieve CO₂ emission advantages over comparable internal combustion engine vehicles after only 1–2 years of use.

With the i3 designation, BMW is not only reviving an old name, but also positioning an electric vehicle of comparable size to the 3-Series, opening up a completely new direction for electrification in the company's mid-size sedan lineup.

BMW is expected to unveil the full design and specifications of the i3 Sedan at its launch event on March 18, 2026. In addition, the company is also believed to be developing a similar internal combustion engine version of the 3-Series in the near future.
