Former striker Louis Saha bluntly called Jadon Sancho "the most disappointing signing in Manchester United's history."
The Sancho deal was a huge mistake for MU.
Once considered one of Europe's most promising attacking players, Sancho arrived at Manchester United with high expectations after his explosive seasons in the Bundesliga. Understandably, the Red Devils spent €85 million to complete the transfer. However, the reality turned out to be quite the opposite.
"Sancho is the most disappointing signing in Manchester United's history. He showed so much potential at Dortmund, but when he came here, everything almost disappeared. It's hard to understand why he can't reach his best form," Saha commented.
The former French star's assessment is not without basis. Since arriving at Old Trafford, Sancho has never been able to maintain consistency. His moments of brilliance are too few and far between.
Compared to his transfer fee and initial expectations, the 26-year-old's contribution has been disproportionate. The English media have called Sancho an expensive "flop" for MU.
Saha also suggested that Sancho might need a new environment to rediscover himself, similar to many players who have declined while playing for MU. Currently, Sancho's future is uncertain as his contract is about to expire. MU is reportedly considering letting Sancho leave on a free transfer.
This season, Sancho has been on loan at Aston Villa, but his form has been quite inconsistent. After 36 appearances in all competitions, he has scored only one goal and provided three assists.
